WHY PARTICIPATE IN AN EXTERNAL QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM?

In addition to be mandatory by the RDC 302:2005 of ANVISA, the External Quality Control is a fundamental element for guaranteeing the quality of the laboratory tests, ensuring results comparability with other laboratories, which allows to evaluate its performance in the long term.

Through the PRO-EX External Quality Control Program, the clinical laboratory can:

  • Obtain information on the degree of analytical performance of their laboratory in relation to all other laboratories participating in the PNCQ;
  • Detect nonconformities in their processes, enabling the implementation of corrective (and preventive) actions, thus achieving excellence in analytical performance;
  • Compare their results with those of other laboratories that use the same methodology;
  • Study the influence of methods, standards and calibrators used;
  • Assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients' illnesses.

The External Quality Control or Proficiency Test – PRO-EX consists of a series of control samples that the PNCQ sends monthly to the Participating Laboratories, elaborated according to the contractual terms, so they get to know its exactness.

There are 4 types:

  • Clinical Laboratories
  • Blood Banks
  • Molecular Biology
  • Cytology

For the Clinical Laboratories there are the Basic Program (mandatory) and several Advanced Programs.

Check the details in Contracts.
